In the depths of the Misty Mountains lurk creatures of incomprehensible evil with murderous instincts. Because their appearance is similar to that of the Balrog, it is theorized that these creatures are born from the same dark powers as Durin's Harm. Although they are inferior to the Balrog in size and power, the Dwellers in the Dark are still beings of dark force, who steal the vital essence of their victims to regain their energy and heal their wounds.
