The figures in this box represent the English army at the height of the Hundred Years' War, when English archers dominated the battlefield in France. Specifically, the figures cover the period between the battle of Agincourt (in 1415, when they were led by Henry V) until the siege of Orleans (1429, when the French were led by Joan of Arc) which became the point of turning point of the war. All Men-at-Arms are represented in the full plate harness, which was now the norm for the nobility, as well as with the metal range, they cover the first flowering of royal full plate armour. This is mostly rounded and "globular". Although they are described as English, they could also be used as French. The only differences are that the English tend to fight in "white" bare armor a little more than the French. With armor styles, the box covers the main types used during these 14 years. Things changed pretty quickly, especially with the sinks at this time. More dishes were added to the basinet with aventail until the aventail completely disappeared and the grand basinet was complete. Houndskull's visors also became globular during this period.
Men-at-arms shields had more or less fallen out of field use as armor became more complete, so there is only one in the sprue (2 per box). All the visors are separate, as is the "orle" or decorated hoop that was typically English. Two of the bodies have jumpsuits and the other four have "white" armor. They designed these so that some of the arms in the Wars of the Roses sets are interchangeable, the shoulders are at least the same width. So with some of the "white" armored corps (i.e. those in the big basins) you should be able to match the 1440s with the WotR arms.
The archers are represented with padded aketons, armed, drawn and loose as a cohesive body. We've also included some weapon pairs for close combat. These will be available separately, as you may want to increase the ratio of archers to men at arms. The box contains 24 archers and 12 men-at-arms. With the archers there is also a trumpet arm, the men in arms frame includes a longer spear that can be used as a banner or banner. Commanders can be used from within the men-at-arms.
Box contains: 36 figures, unit bases, 17 banners, 6 standards, painting guide and information sheet.
