The figures in this box represent the English army at the height of the Hundred Years' War, when English archers dominated the battlefield in France. Specifically the figures cover the period from the Battle of Agincourt (in 1415, when they were led by Henry V) to the Siege of Orleans (1429, when the French were led by John of Arc) which made the turning point of the war. All men-at-arms are represented in the full plate harness that was now the norm for the nobility, as with the metal range, they cover the first bloom of true full plate armor. This is mostly rounded and 'globular'. Although they are described as English they could be used as French as well. The only differences are the English tend to fight in "white" bare armor a little more than the French. With the armor styles the box covers the main types used during these 14 years. Things changed pretty quickly, especially with basinets at this time. More dishes were added to the basic basinet with the aventail until the aventail was completely gone and you had the complete grand basinet. Houndskull visors also became globular during this period. Shields for men at arms have more or less fallen out of use in the field as armor became more complete, so there is only one in the sprue (2 per box). All the visors are separate as is the 'orle' or decorated circlet that was typically English. Two of the bodies have jupons and the other four are in "white" armor. These designed these so some of the Roses sets Wars arms are interchangeable, the shoulders are the same width at least. So with some of the "white" armored corps (i.e. the ones in the big trays), you should be able to save the 1440 with the WotR arms. The archers are depicted in padded aketons, nocking, drawing and releasing as a cohesive body. We've included some weapon pairs for close combat as well. These will be available separately as you might want to increase the ratio of archers to men in arms. The box contains 24 archers and 12 men-at-arms. With the archers there is also a trumpet arm, the men's arm frame includes a longer spear that can be used for a standard or a banner. Commanders can be used from within the men-at-arms.
Box contains: 36 figures, unit bases, 17 flags, 6 standards, painting guide and information sheet.
