The Birmingham Small Arms company already had a long history as a firearms manufacturer before becoming the largest producer of British motorcycles during the Second World War. The civilian design of the 500 cc, 12 horsepower BSA M20 was adapted for military use and a staggering 126,000 units were produced during the war. These served on all fronts in a wide range of roles and continued to serve well into the 1950s.
