Unlike their Necron masters, the Canoptic Spiders never sleep, but spend eons tending the structures of their necropolis world. Although essentially an automated drone, a Canoptic Spider is a formidable enemy when the situation calls for it. Any enemy foolish enough to approach a Canoptic Spider will have its skin ripped from its bones using a device of pincers and mechanical tools. If a triad of Canoptic Spiders operates in unison, one of them takes charge to make the most of the processing capacity of the rest and create a gestalt supermind much greater than the sum of its parts. They share this efficiency with all the Canoptic Specters and Canoptic Beetles in the vicinity, allowing the Canoptic Spiders to respond with coordinated and precise movement to any threat, and thus ensuring the safety of their masters.
As far as savage mechanical constructs go, there's nothing nastier than a Canoptic Spider. When he's not tearing apart enemy infantry or tanks with a collection of hooks and blades, he's usually repairing your damaged vehicles. And, as icing on the cake, even in the heat of battle, the Canoptic Spider can release the Canoptic Beetles from its abdomen to reinforce your army and irritate your adversaries.
