Based on the reliable Czechoslovak Panzer 38(t) chassis, almost 3,000 Hetzers (Baiters) were built by the end of the war. Their small size and very low profile gave them clear advantages in the role of tank hunters.
Furthermore, the Hetzer was not hampered by the mechanical problems associated with larger tank destroyers such as the Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger, nor did it have the unprotected fighting compartment of the Nashorn or Marder tank destroyers. Additionally, its remote-controlled roof machine gun gave it good close-in defense capability.
Hetzers equipped many Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht formations (including the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine), and saw action on all fronts on which Germany fought, as well as with the Hungarian Army. The first Hetzers entered service with the 731 and 743 Heeres Panzerjäger Abteilung in May/June 1944.
This plastic box allows you to build one of three types of vehicles: a mid-to-late production Hetzer, a Flammpanzer 38(t), and a 2cm FlaK auf Hetzer AA/reconnaissance vehicle.
Includes: a 1/56 scale hard plastic Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer tank destroyer, vehicle damage markers, full color painting and assembly guide, Bolt Action stat cards, and water decal sheet (for German vehicles and Hungarians).
The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
