When the Fellowship of the Ring broke up on Amon Hen, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli decided to pursue the Uruk-hai who had kidnapped the Hobbits Merry and Pippin. These Three Hunters tracked the enemy to Rohan, where they traveled alongside Théoden and the people of Edoras to the safety of Helm's Deep.
However, when the convoy was attacked by a pack of Warg Riders, the Three Hunters mounted and fought to protect it from Sharku's Hunters alongside Théoden's Eorlings. Legolas rode with Gimli, whose riding left much to be desired, allowing the powerful Dwarf to enter the heart of the fight early in the battle.
