The 6-pounder entered service in 1942 replacing the disappointing 2-pounder. The new 57 mm caliber gun was capable of destroying most German armor in 1942, causing serious damage to the Germans in its first appearance at the Battle of Gazala. He struggled to penetrate the frontal armor of the new German Tigers and Panthers, but was able to eliminate them from the side. The 6-pounder was in use until the end of the war and there were modified versions until 1960.
The Loyd aircraft carrier was manufactured between 1939 and 1960 and 26,000 units were built during that period. It was used primarily as a towing vehicle for the 6-pounder gun, but also as a transport for machine gun crews and signal crews. It was the main engine for the 6-pounder gun during the Normandy landings until the end of the war.
The kit comes with 3 6-pounder anti-tank guns and 3 Loyd carriers. There are two gun crews, 1 in standard artillery uniform and 1 in British airborne uniform. The British airborne divisions had 6-pounder guns landed on gliders as anti-tank support to give them a little more power. There is additional storage space, ammo boxes and spent shells, plus crew to travel on the carrier and an optional soft top.
