This versatile new plastic kit can be assembled as an M5 Stuart, M5A1 Stuart or E7-7 mechanized flamethrower, and is also suitable for many Bolt Action armies, including the American, British, Soviet and Chinese.
The Americans preferred light tanks over armored vehicles for reconnaissance, and the M5 light tanks were developed for this role. The main difference between this and the previous vehicle was its Cadillac engine. This required a redesign of the armor to fit, and the opportunity was taken to improve the design and layout of the armor. In the M5A1 version, the lower hull casting was now up to 64 mm thick in places. Other improvements include wider access hatches, more interior crew space, and ammunition storage for 147 37mm rounds. Production was limited as the introduction of the M24 light tank was imminent.
Although it counts as a light tank (damage value 8+) in bolt action, it benefits from the Reinforced Armor special rule; when firing shots that hit the front of the vehicle, treat its armor value as 9+ instead.
