James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes fought alongside Captain America during World War II, before apparently meeting his death while on a mission. Years later, Barnes resurfaced as the brainwashed Russian agent known as the Winter Soldier. Eventually, after crossing paths with his old friend and partner, Captain America, Bucky was able to rid himself of his Russian programming and claim his freedom.
