During the Great War, the assault tanks of the German army simply played an anecdotal role. Due to the restrictions imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, the first training unit for armored forces was not organized (secretly) until 1933. The existence of the first three Panzerdivisionen of this new German army was officially revealed in 1935. The armored troops o Panzertruppen was an independent branch of the Army, with its own command. This allowed tanks to be concentrated into divisions so that units were capable of meaningful strategic deployments. General Heinz Guderian forged both words: Panzerwaffe to refer to the armored force and Panzertruppen to identify the elite armored troops that would conquer half of Europe in the following years. The evolution of camouflage schemes painted on tanks and vehicles of German armored units is analyzed in the book along with the organization of these German units during the First and Second World Wars and the entire interwar period.
