Guadalcanal. Tarawa. Iwo Jima. Okinawa. Just a few of the legendary actions the US Marine Corps fought, actions that have rightfully made the USMC a legend.
There are few combat forces that can rival the fearsome reputation of the United States Marine Corps. In fact, they can trace their ancestry back to the Revolutionary War in the 18th century, serving around the world to this day.
During World War II, U.S. Marines led the American response to Japanese aggression, leading to a fierce island-hopping campaign. Technologically superior American forces conducted many amphibious attacks that wore down the Japanese and culminated in overwhelming American victories, although with terrible loss of life on both sides.
US Marines in the Pacific theater were eager to get the job done, whether with bayonet, shotgun, or their Thompson submachine guns. Their loyalty to their comrades and the Corps stood them in good stead when faced with a fanatical enemy in which no quarter was given or received.
